Influenza Virus Infection in Racing Greyhounds

چکیده
4 simultaneous Markov chains over 2 million generations, sampled every 100 generations, and ended with a calculation of a 50% majority rule consensus tree. On the phylogenetic tree, sequences of Estonian isolate group together with those of other E. multilocularis isolates from different countries and were clearly separated from those of all other species (data not shown). The results of genetic analysis confirmed morphologic identification of E. multilocularis. This study reports a new location of E. multilocularis in Europe. Estonia is the northernmost country on the mainland of the continent where E. multilocularis has been described. Because no studies have been published on the occurrence of E. multilocularis in Estonia in either foxes or rodents, whether this report identifies a stable endemic area or whether the parasite has expanded its range recently cannot be determined. Although a limited number of foxes were examined, the occurrence of E. multilocularis appears to be frequent and widespread in Estonia, which poses a risk for putatively parasitefree adjacent countries in Fennoscandia.

Transmission of equine influenza virus to dogs.
Molecular and antigenic analyses of three influenza viruses isolated from outbreaks of severe respiratory disease in racing greyhounds revealed that they are closely related to H3N8 equine influenza virus. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the canine influenza virus genomes form a monophyletic group, consistent with a single interspecies virus transfer. Molecular changes in the hemagglutinin...
متن کاملCanine Influenza
Canine influenza is an emerging disease. No influenza viruses circulated in dogs until genetic changes in an equine influenza virus allowed this virus to spread efficiently in the canine population. Canine influenza was first reported in racing greyhounds, and initially seemed to be confined to this breed. Beginning in 2004, outbreaks of respiratory disease occurred at greyhound kennels and rac...
متن کاملCanine Influenza
Influenza is a viral disease that has long been known to affect birds and some mammals, but was only recently recognized in dogs. Each influenza virus is maintained in one or more related host species; however, host specificity is not absolute. A virus may occasionally infect other animals, or on rare occasions, become adapted to a new species. No influenza viruses were known to circulate in do...

متن کاملInfluence of the Environment on Body Temperature of Racing Greyhounds
Heat strain is a potential risk factor for racing greyhounds in hot climates. However, there have been limited studies into the incidence of heat strain (when excess heat causes physiological or pathological effects) in racing greyhounds. The aim of this study was to determine if heat strain occurs in racing greyhounds, and, if so, whether environmental factors (e.g., ambient temperature and re...
